Connecticut governor, AG propose legislation on social media restrictions

( February 18, 2026, 22:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Connecticut lawmakers are considering HB 5037, An Act Promoting the Safety of Minors on Social Media Platforms, proposed by Governor Ned Lamont and state Attorney General William Tong.  At a hearing in Hartford Wednesday, lawmakers heard testimony from industry groups such as the Computer and Communications Industry Association as well as supporters of the bill such as Tong. The bill would also include safety provisions including default limitations on how long minors could use an algorithm, what hours of the day they could receive notification, and limits on who could see a child’s account and send them direct messages.See attached text of HB, and written testimony from CCIA and Attorney General Tong....
