Shein under investigation in EU over addictive design, illegal products

( February 17, 2026, 11:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shein is being investigated in the EU for possible breaches of the bloc's digital services law involving addictive design features, the sale of illegal products and its recommender systems, the European Commission said on Tuesday. The in-depth probe will examine the systems Shein has in place to limit the sale of illegal goods in the EU, including content that could constitute child sexual abuse material. It will also examine the risks linked to the addictive design of the service, including giving consumers points or rewards for engagement, and the transparency of the recommender systems that Shein uses to propose content and products to users, it said.Press release attached....
