Japan creates fast-track approval for US-made cars under tariff pact

( February 16, 2026, 07:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s transport ministry said Monday it has created a new approval scheme to accept certain US-made passenger cars for sale in Japan without additional domestic testing, implementing Japan’s commitments under the July 22, 2025 US-Japan framework agreement joint statement on tariffs. Effective Monday, vehicles certified as safe under US procedures would be deemed compliant if they received the transport minister’s certification, with a rear mark and inspection-certificate notation required, according to the ministry.The statement is attached (in Japanese)....
