Revised rules released on Tuesday will force platforms to track and label AI-generated content, while intermediaries face the prospect of losing safe harbor immunity if they fail to remove unlawful synthetic media within the new three-hour window. In a major move to counter the rising threat of deepfakes and AI-driven misinformation, the Indian government has overhauled its digital governance framework by bringing artificial intelligence–generated content under formal regulation through a newly introduced definition of “synthetically generated information.” This marks the first time India’s legal system has drawn a clear technical and legal boundary around content created or altered using AI....
