Hong Kong reiterates dissatisfaction over Panama court ruling on CK Hutchison-linked ports deal

( February 10, 2026, 06:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday reiterated the government’s strong dissatisfaction with a ruling by Panama’s top court, according to a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government press release. The remarks followed a decision by Panama’s Supreme Court declaring unconstitutional a contract extension allowing Panama Ports Company — indirectly 90 percent owned by Hong Kong’s CK Hutchison — to operate two ports in the country. Lee said the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau last week summoned Panama’s consul general in Hong Kong to express strong dissatisfaction, warning that Panama’s reversal of lawful commercial arrangements damages its credibility, harms its business environment and economy, and seriously undermines international trade rules.Statement excerpt follows (in Chinese)....
