South Korea issues guidelines to urge officials to share public data for AI

( February 5, 2026, 07:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety on Thursday began distributing guidelines on how public-sector workers can actively provide data for uses such as artificial intelligence development, without fearing future legal or administrative liability. The guidelines aim to address the problem of officials becoming overly cautious about providing public data due to concerns over excessive legal responsibility, and to accelerate the release of public data essential for fostering emerging industries such as AI, the ministry said. It added that it plans to pursue amendments to the Public Data Act to further clarify the scope and requirements of immunity related to the provision of data for AI development.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
