UK cuts maximum fine discount companies get for engaging with sanctions enforcer

( January 29, 2026, 14:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Companies who report issues themselves to the UK's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation will receive a smaller maximum 30 percent reduction in the fine they face rather than the previous possible maximum 50 percent cut, the UK's finance ministry said Thursday. Feedback showed that although a 50 percent cut could encourage fuller disclosure, OFSI said such a high discount could have a negative impact on the deterrent of monetary penalties and the effectiveness of the UK’s sanctions regimes. The UK Treasury said companies could still reduce fines further by early engagement with OFSI, the agency which helps ensure financial sanctions are properly understood, implemented and enforced. The consultation response is attached below....
