South Korea enacts special law to strengthen support for semiconductor sector

( January 29, 2026, 08:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s parliament overwhelmingly approved on Thursday a special law to help the local semiconductor industry receive support more swiftly and efficiently than before, amid explosive growth in demand for high-end chips driven by rapid advances in artificial intelligence. The Special Act on Strengthening Competitiveness and Supporting the Semiconductor Industry provides an institutional framework for the authorities to systematically support the entire semiconductor supply chain — including memory and system semiconductors; design, manufacturing, and packaging; and materials, components, and equipment — in response to intensifying global competition, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
