South Korea to focus industrial R&D spending on AI chips, humanoid robots

( January 28, 2026, 07:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s industry ministry said Wednesday that its industry-sector research and development spending will focus on accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence in manufacturing factories and on securing capabilities to design and produce semiconductors tailored for on-device AI systems. Announcing its 2026 R&D strategies, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said it aims to boost manufacturing productivity by more than 30 percent through broader AI adoption, launch a 700 billion won initiative to develop on-device AI chips, and support the development and field demonstration of 10 industrial-use humanoid robots.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
