Philippine competition watchdog clears FPG–Mercantile insurance merger

( January 28, 2026, 02:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Philippine Competition Commission has cleared the merger of non-life insurers FPG Insurance and Mercantile Insurance, finding no substantial lessening of competition. Notified in November 2025, the deal will see Mercantile as the surviving entity, to be renamed FPG Mercantile. After reviewing nationwide non-life insurance and global reinsurance markets, the PCC said the parties’ combined market shares are low and competitive constraints from rivals remain sufficient. The review covered aviation, fire, marine, motor, casualty, engineering, personal accident and surety lines.Statement follows....
