Renesas Electronics America has had a search warrant executed at its premises as part of a US Department of Justice investigation into suspected price-fixing of semiconductor components, MLex has learned.MLex reported Monday that Shanghai-based Montage Technology was subject to a search warrant in California on Jan. 13 as part of the same investigation by the DOJ's Antitrust Division (see here). On the same day, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Postal Service's Office of Inspector General executed a search warrant on Renesas's Silicon Valley premises in Santa Clara, California, it's understood.
Search warrants were also executed on certain employees of the company, it's understood.
Renesas Electronics America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo-headquartered Renesas Electronics, is a semiconductor designer and manufacturer. The company is a global supplier of microcontroller, analog, power, and System on Chip semiconductors. Renesas services the automotive, industrial, infrastructure and Internet of Things markets.
A spokesperson for the DOJ's Antitrust Division declined to comment. A spokesperson for the FBI said the agency can't confirm or deny the existence of the probe.
Spokespersons for the USPS Office of Inspector General and Renesas didn't respond to requests for comment.
