VoiceAge wins at Germany’s top court, HMD loses bid to refer questions to EU judges

( January 27, 2026, 16:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: VoiceAge has secured a win at Germany’s Federal Court of Justice, which upheld an injunction against HMD and rejected the phone maker’s antitrust-based licensing defense in a dispute over standard-essential patents used in 4G voice technology. The court found that HMD’s overall conduct showed it was not genuinely willing to take a license on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms, despite licensing offers made by VoiceAge. Judges pointed to delays in negotiations and to security provided by HMD that fell well below even its own proposed licensing terms.
