India wins EU assurance of equal carbon border tax treatment, technical support

By Oscar Pandiello ( January 27, 2026, 13:00 GMT | Insight) -- Indian companies exporting goods in scope of the EU's carbon border tax will receive technical support under the EU-India trade deal announced on Tuesday, a European Commission official said. The agreement also confirms that Indian exporters will be treated on an equal footing with all other EU trade partners, after Indian concerns of more favorable treatment for US exporters. EU officials have ruled out that scenario as breaking EU law.The EU will provide technical support to India and commit not to give more favorable treatment to other trade partners under its carbon border levy, as agreed in the new EU-India free trade deal, the European Commission said....
