South Korea holds high-level meeting on tariff-linked US investment bill

( January 27, 2026, 05:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean officials reviewed on Tuesday the progress of the proposed bill on strategic investment management with the US, in a high-level meeting convened after US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that tariffs would be raised to 25 percent, the country’s Presidential Office said. The meeting was chaired by Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, and attended by senior officials including Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo and presidential aides. The meeting affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the tariff agreement with the US, while noting that the tariff increase will take effect only after an official notice is published in the US Federal Register. The proposed Special Act on Strategic Investment Management between South Korea and the US was submitted in November after tariff negotiations between the two countries concluded last year.    Statement follows (in Korean)....
