South Korea warns of rising AI-enabled, intelligent cyber threats

( January 27, 2026, 03:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea said on Tuesday that reported cyber incidents rose sharply by 26.3 percent to 2,383 cases in 2025 and warned that cyber threats would grow increasingly intelligent and sophisticated in 2026, with artificial intelligence-enabled attacks becoming a reality and greater exploitation of vulnerabilities in cloud environments. In their co-authored report, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency presented four main cyber threat themes for 2026: rising AI-based cyber threats and attacks on AI services; the use of end-of-service and neglected, unused systems as hacking gateways; increasing attacks targeting vulnerabilities in cloud environments; and secondary cyber threats exploiting leaked personal data.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
