EU looks to unlock power purchase agreements with new consultation

( January 23, 2026, 13:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission is seeking feedback on barriers to power purchase agreements —long-term contracts in which electricity is sold at a fixed price to support new clean energy projects and price stability. The consultation looks at legal and technical hurdles that limit the use of PPAs in some countries, which include limited access for small buyers, a lack of standard contracts, and cross-border challenges.
