Tech company, executive in China's Hunan fined over data security lapses

( January 23, 2026, 08:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An unidentified technology company in China's Hunan province and one of its executives were separately fined 300,000 yuan ($43,100) and 30,000 yuan and issued warnings by the provincial internet regulator for violating China’s network data security rules. In a statement on Friday, authorities said they found that the company had unlawfully subcontracted data processing without the client’s consent, provided personal information to a third-party information services company without authorization and failed to adequately supervise the third party’s compliance with data security obligations. The case emerged when the internet regulator investigated that information services company for failing to fulfill its own data protection obligations, according to the regulator.
