Japan begins drafting national AI robotics strategy, eyes service robot gap

( January 22, 2026, 08:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on Wednesday held its first meeting to draft a national strategy for AI-powered robotics, reviewing the reasons behind Japan’s weakness in service robots despite its dominant global share of the industrial robotics market. The sessions will wrap up by March, followed by the publication of a strategic roadmap.
