Firefighter software consolidation merits antitrust investigation, US senators say

( January 21, 2026, 20:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Private equity-backed ESO Solutions controls software relied on by 20,000 of the nation's 30,000 fire departments following a string of acquisitions that preceded removal of cost effective fire service options relied on by smaller departments, US Senators Amy Klobuchar and Roger Marshall said in a letter urging US Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission leaders to investigate consolidation in the sector. "More broadly, fire departments, and other public safety agencies across the nation, have experienced cost increases as markets consolidate, affecting everything from fire engine manufacturing and emergency radios to fire retardants and other essential equipment," the senators said.Full statement follows.
