Japan's Sony to form TV, home entertainment joint venture with China's TCL

( January 20, 2026, 09:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s Sony has agreed to establish a joint venture with China’s TCL Electronics Holdings to take over Sony’s television and home entertainment business, with TCL holding a 51 percent stake and Sony 49 percent. Under a memorandum of agreement signed on Tuesday, the two companies said they aim to negotiate definitive, binding agreements by the end of March 2026. Subject to the execution of those agreements, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions, the new company is expected to begin operations in April 2027, and will handle product development through to manufacturing, sales and customer service for products including televisions and home audio equipment.The statement is attached....
