Astra Energy seeks to acquire New Zealand fuel retailers Gull, NPD, regulator says

( January 20, 2026, 03:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Astra Energy Group seeks to acquire independent fuel retailers Gull and NPD in New Zealand, the country’s competition said. In a statement on Tuesday, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that Astra Energy proposes to acquire all of the shares in GNZ Holdco including its Gull subsidiary, and all of the shares in NPD Group Investments including its subsidiary, NPD. The regulator said while NPD is a retail-only operator supplying fuel predominantly in New Zealand’s South Island, Gull is a fuel importer and retailer supplying fuel in the North Island. In a statement of preliminary issues, the regulator said its investigation will focus on the degree of constraint that Gull and NPD would impose on each other if the merger were rejected.Statement follows.
