Ensure clear refusal and withdrawal to cross-device cookie consent, CNIL tells platforms

( January 16, 2026, 11:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms using account-based services must follow clear conditions for cross-device cookie consent, France’s data protection authority said on Friday. The Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés said a single consent across devices is lawful only with upfront transparency, and with equally simple refusal and withdrawal options. CNIL reiterated that users should first contact the relevant data controller if cross-device consent is unclear or cannot be withdrawn, before they decide to escalate a complaint to the regulator.Full press release below and guidance is attached....
