China, Canada issue joint statement to deepen trade ties, advance dispute talks

( January 16, 2026, 09:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China and Canada issued a joint statement on Friday following a meeting of their respective leaders in which they agreed to strengthen their bilateral economic and trade partnership and welcomed progress in negotiations to resolve trade issues, China’s state news agency Xinhua reported. The two sides said they aim to expand two-way trade and investment, strengthen the role of bilateral trade and revive the China–Canada agriculture joint committee to boost cooperation on farming and food security. They also reaffirmed support for a rules-based multilateral trading system centered on the World Trade Organization and pledged to work together to keep global supply chains stable.Statement follows....
