China regulators warn EV makers to curb price wars, amid plans to tighten oversight

( January 16, 2026, 05:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation convened a meeting with major new-energy vehicle companies to warn against disorderly price competition and to tighten oversight of the sector, the agencies said in a joint meeting on Wednesday. The regulators told companies to resist “price wars,” uphold innovation and quality, and help build a fair, value-based market order. They said they will strengthen coordination on cost investigations, price monitoring and enforcement, step up supervision of production consistency and punish violations.
