Snapchat revises UK risks of illegal content following Ofcom intervention

( January 15, 2026, 11:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Snapchat has changed how it assesses the risk of illegal content appearing on its platform after an intervention by Ofcom, the UK online safety regulator said on Thursday. Ofcom had raised concerns about the adequacy of Snapchat’s risk assessment and started a remediation process, engaging with the company directly instead of opening a formal investigation. Snapchat carried out a “comprehensive reassessment” of risk levels across identified harms, the regulator said. Following revisions submitted in December, Ofcom has closed the process and will take no further action for now. But it added that it hasn’t taken a view on whether Snap’s revised risk assessment is fully compliant with the Online Safety Act.Statement follows....
