UK plan to ban nudification tools might leave Grok scope unclear, lawmaker warns

( January 14, 2026, 12:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The chair of a key UK parliamentary committee has warned that the government’s planned ban on AI “nudification tools” may not capture multi-purpose systems such as X’s Grok chatbot. Science, Innovation and Technology Committee chair Chi Onwurah raised concerns in response to a letter from tech minister Liz Kendall saying the ban would apply only to apps whose sole purpose is to generate fake nude images without consent. Kendall said the legislation would also allow police to target firms and individuals that design and supply such tools. Onwurah also asked the minister why it had take the UK so long to implement the nudification ban.Statement follows.
