Free Mobile, Free face €42m of fines after French privacy breach

( January 14, 2026, 10:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: French telecom operators Free Mobile and Free — both of which are divisions of Iliad — face a combined fine of €42 million from the national data protection authority, following a data breach. The Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés imposed a fine of €27 million on Free Mobile — and a fine of €15 million on Free — after finding they hadn't taken adequate measures to ensure the security of their subscribers' data.
