South Korea to increase public purchases of AI, other innovation goods

( January 14, 2026, 02:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s government procurement agency said Wednesday that it will sharply increase its purchases of goods and services produced using artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies to spur those industries. The Public Procurement Service said it aims to raise such purchases to 2 trillion won ($1.35 billion) by 2028, up from 1.02 trillion won in 2024, and further to 3 trillion won in 2030. It said it will intensify efforts to identify innovative private-sector technologies and products in key future fields such as AI, biotechnology, robotics, and climate tech, with the government acting as the first buyer to lead technological advancement, support corporate growth and improve public services.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
