But the Online Safety Act’s emphasis on risk assessments — paired with its own lack of transparency on what happens to them — make it difficult to predict the progress of the investigation. Ofcom’s previous hints about the state of platforms’ risk assessments doesn't bode well for a quick process, and neither does the regulator’s own track record of handling other enforcement to date.Nothing about the UK’s Online Safety Act has been fast, from when it was first floated in 2021 to its ongoing three-year implementation period.
