Singapore passes Health Information Bill expanding centralized health data system

( January 12, 2026, 13:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singapore’s parliament passed the Health Information Bill on Monday, requiring all licensed healthcare providers to contribute patient records to the centralized National Electronic Health Record system. The law aims to improve care continuity, reduce duplicative tests and support precision medicine. The centralized record system will store diagnoses, medications, lab results, imaging and discharge summaries, accessible only to authorized professionals. Safeguards include monitored patient access, prohibitions on insurance or employment use and emergency audit-tracked access. Non-compliance can result in fines up to S$20,000 ($15,560) or imprisonment, with cybersecurity breaches carrying fines up to S$1 million.
