Irish competition watchdog calls for higher mandatory merger thresholds

( January 12, 2026, 11:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The financial thresholds for mandatory notification of mergers in Ireland should be increased to help focus resources on transactions which are more likely to raise competition issues, the country's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said on Monday in an annual report. The competition watchdog had 90 merger notifications in 2025, up from 82 in 2024, and from 68 in 2023.
