Singapore passes bill to expand public-sector data sharing, tighten accountability

( January 12, 2026, 10:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singapore’s parliament passed the Public Sector Governance (Amendment) Bill on Monday, broadening the circumstances under which public agencies may share data, including with approved external partners, while strengthening penalties for misuse. Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Jasmin Lau said the amendments aim to remove legal ambiguity that can slow service delivery, especially where agencies work with social service and community organizations. Data sharing would be limited to specified public purposes, require ministerial approval and be subject to binding protection requirements.
