China sets 2026 commerce priorities with focus on security, export controls

( January 12, 2026, 04:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s commerce authorities said they will reinforce safeguards around market opening by strengthening foreign-related legal frameworks, tightening export controls and security review mechanisms, and improving trade risk-prevention systems to protect the resilience and security of industrial and supply chains. The priorities were set out at a national commerce work conference held in Beijing over the weekend, where the Ministry of Commerce outlined its agenda for 2026. Officials said the focus will include boosting consumption and building a stronger domestic market, while advancing trade innovation through upgraded goods trade, expanded services trade, and the development of digital and green trade.
