China launches competition investigation, assessment of food-delivery platform services

( January 9, 2026, 09:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s State Council Anti-Monopoly and Anti-Unfair Competition Commission Office has launched an investigation and assessment of competition conditions in the food-delivery platform services sector, according to a statement released by the State Administration for Market Regulation on Friday. Citing concerns about aggressive price subsidies, traffic-allocation practices and intensifying destructive competition that regulators say is squeezing the real economy, the move aims to assess monopoly risks and overall market order in the sector. The probe will involve on-site checks, interviews and questionnaires, and will solicit views from platform operators, merchants, gig workers and consumers. Platforms were urged to cooperate fully and strengthen antitrust compliance to support fair competition.Statement follows (Chinese)....
