Search engine crawler SerpApi moves to dismiss Reddit's DMCA claims

( January 2, 2026, 19:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Reddit lacks standing to sue web crawler SerpApi under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, according to search engine crawler SerpApi. In a motion to dismiss, the defendant said no court has "ever extended DMCA standing to a plaintiff like Reddit" because Reddit is "neither the owner nor the exclusive licensee of any copyright at issue." SerpApi also said it pulls "snippets" of Reddit posts found in Google search results. "Because public access to Google’s search results is 'wide open,' Reddit fails to allege that Google 'effectively controls access' to its search results like a 'lock on a homeowner’s door'," the motion states. See file attached. ...
