South Korean president pledges expanded regional AI, energy projects in 2026

( December 31, 2025, 20:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s pledges to implement policies aimed at eliminating unfair competition between businesses and favoring provincial areas in projects relating to artificial intelligence  and energy. In his New Year address, Lee said his administration will “decisively eliminate the expedients and unfair practices that still remain throughout society,” signaling a tough stance on enforcing fair-competition regulations. He also said that the farther a region is from the capital area, the more substantial and bold government support will be for semiconductor, AI and renewable energy projects. He made the remarks while praising the foundations for a new growth drive that were laid in 2025 through a deal to secure large quantities of AI-powering GPU chips and the adoption of an AI-supporting government budget.The full speech, in Korean, is attached....
