South Korea lacks adequate controls for AI chat services, report says

( December 30, 2025, 02:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean parliament’s research unit has called for additional measures to better address social issues arising from the increasing use of conversational services provided by artificial intelligence companies. The National Assembly Research Service said in a report published on Monday that the country’s institutional measures to deal with the risks of emotional dependency among users of interactive AI services are insufficient, despite the fact that South Koreans are among the most active users of such services. The authors of the report called for measures to ensure users can readily recognize that their conversation partner is an AI program, restrict advice provided by AI services, and amend to relevant provisions of the AI Basic Act. The report referred to related legislation in several US states, such as California and Illinois, as examples of efforts to deal with the risks.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
