JFTC boosts budget, staffing to promote fair transactions despite overall cut

( December 26, 2025, 02:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Japanese antitrust agency has secured an increased budget and additional personnel to ensure fair transactions between large companies and their smaller suppliers, even though the overall budget declined by 17 percent to 13 billion yen ($84 million) for the fiscal year starting in April. In the budget plan approved by the Cabinet on Friday, the Japan Fair Trade Commission received a 55 percent budget boost — up to 1.2 billion yen — for enforcing the amended Subcontract Act and other initiatives that protect smaller businesses from exploitative practices by larger companies. In addition, the agency's workforce will expand by 63 employees, including 59 dedicated to fair-transaction matters, bringing the total headcount at the General Secretariat to 995 as of March 2027.The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
