Taiwan legislature passes new artificial intelligence law

( December 24, 2025, 09:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan passed the Artificial Intelligence Basic Act after its third reading, according to Taiwan’s official national news agency, the Central News Agency. The act sets out seven core principles for AI development, including sustainability and well-being, human autonomy, privacy and data governance, cybersecurity and safety, transparency and explainability, fairness and non-discrimination as well as accountability. It also bars AI applications from harming lives, freedom, property or social order; undermining national security or the environment; or engaging in bias, discrimination, false advertising, misinformation or fabrication. The act designated the National Science and Technology Council as the governing authority for AI.Statement follows....
