South Korea says AI Act enforcement decree to be finalized soon

( December 24, 2025, 03:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT on Wednesday disclosed five major issues in the enforcement decree for the AI Basic Act that drew significant public comment and amendment requests during the pre-legislation notice period. It said the issues concerned the definition of artificial intelligence businesses and differing obligations by business type; transparency responsibilities; safety responsibilities; procedures for confirming high-impact AI systems; and responsibilities of high-impact AI system businesses. The ministry said the draft enforcement decree will be finalized with minor amendments before the AI law takes effect on Jan. 22, 2026, adding that it will try to reflect as many of the key points from the public comments as possible in subsequent notices and guidelines. It also said a support team of experts from various organizations will be created to ensure a smooth implementation of the law as well as to help smaller businesses.The statement is attached (Korean)....
