Lithuania to cut first stage fines for antitrust breaches by 50% from May 2026

( December 23, 2025, 14:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Lithuania will reduce first stage fines for competition violations by half from May 1, 2026, after parliament approved amendments to antitrust laws, the country's competition watchdog said on Tuesday. The Competition Council will still be able to assess mitigating and aggravating circumstances in the second stage of calculating the fine, it said. However, the maximum 50 percent limit may only be exceeded if aggravating circumstances are established or if the fine is increased for deterrence in cartel cases, it said. The authority said it had told lawmakers that halving fines for dangerous infringements would limit its ability to take into account criteria established by EU law and impose deterrent sanctions. Statement follows. ...
