UK watchdog flags need for clearer rules, funding in response to cyber bill

In a response published Tuesday, the Information Commissioner’s Office said uncertainty over incident-reporting thresholds, enforcement powers and the treatment of critical suppliers could impact its ability to offer guidance to businesses, as the regulator prepares to take on an expanded oversight. The statement also echoed concerns shared internally by other officials in the past, and revealed by MLex earlier this year, over the need for increased funding.The UK’s privacy regulator has welcomed the government’s cybersecurity reform bill while warning that key elements still need to be clarified in follow-up legislation, echoing concerns the watchdog had raised internally well before the bill was formally introduced....
