Japanese transport companies warned against exploitative treatment of subcontractors

( December 23, 2025, 06:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese antitrust and small business regulators announced on Tuesday that they have discovered potential Subcontract Act violations among transport companies. The issues include failure to provide purchase orders with detailed contracting information and refusal to negotiate fees with subcontracted trucking companies despite requests for adjustments in light of rising costs. As a result of a focused survey among transport companies, the Japan Fair Trade Commission and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency issued 530 guidance notices to trucking companies and warned them against engaging in exploitative practices.
