Pleas in French lawmaker's appeal against EU-US data transfer deal published

( December 22, 2025, 10:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A French lawmaker has asked EU judges to annul the European Commission's 2023 decision declaring that the EU-US Data Privacy Framework provides an "adequate level of protection of personal data" in accordance with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. In four pleas to the EU Court of Justice, published in the EU's Official Journal Monday, Philippe Latombe asked EU judges to overturn the General Court's rejection of his argument that the data protection agreement offers "essentially equivalent" privacy safeguards to those provided for by EU law. Latombe argued that the General Court "erred in law" by failing to find that the rules for appointing and dismissing judges on the US Data Protection Review Court, the redress mechanism in the trans-Atlantic deal that was established to address citizens’ complaints about data transfers, call those safeguards into question.Full statement below:...
