Real Madrid land transfer deal was not state aid, EU watchdog says

In the watchdog's August decision published on Monday, the commission said Madrid City Council had acted like "a hypothetical private investor in a comparable position would have done." In 2016, the watchdog ordered Spain to claw back €18.4 million from Real Madrid related to the land transfer with city council, but the football club managed to overturn the decision at the EU General Court three years later. The decision is attached.
