Carlyle–BASF Coatings deal approved under Australia's new merger regime

( December 19, 2025, 04:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Global investment company The Carlyle Group’s proposal to acquire BASF Coatings, the automotive-coatings division of German publicly listed chemical company BASF SE, has received Australian regulatory approval. In a determination issued on Thursday but published on Friday, the Australia Competition & Consumer Commission said that while Carlyle has investments in a few overseas industrial businesses that could be viewed as “complementary with BASF Coatings,” these have “neither operations nor a material customer base in Australia.” Carlyle plans to acquire sole control of BASF Coatings, while BASF SE will retain a 40 percent non-controlling interest and the Qatar Investment Authority will hold about 16 percent.The determination is attached:...
