Australian government finalizes changes to new merger regime

( December 18, 2025, 07:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian government has published updates to its new merger regime’s rules, with a focus on exemptions and serial acquisition thresholds. In an updated legislative instrument published on Thursday, the Australian government confirmed that leases and other acquisitions of interests of land in the “ordinary course of business” would be exempted unless subject to “targeted notification requirements.” The government has also clarified that divested acquisitions are excluded from the serial acquisition notification tests.
