French book delivery fee must be analyzed under EU goods movement law, ECJ says

( December 18, 2025, 09:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: France’s €3 minimum shipping fee for books must be analyzed under the EU's free movement of goods law because it affects the overall selling price of books, the EU's highest court has said. However, the EU Court of Justice did not rule on whether the French law which introduced the fee could be justified. The case stems from a dispute between Amazon and the French government over the minimum fee imposed on shipping book orders which was introduced in October 2023 to help independent and physical bookstores counter competition from Amazon, which had offered nearly free book deliveries.The statement and ruling are attached....
