Stellantis, Nippon Paint among 38 apps pulled in China crackdown on user-data violations

( December 17, 2025, 06:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apps run by European car giant Stellantis, Volvo Construction Equipment, Japanese paint company Nippon Paint, Bank of China International Securities, Chinese real estate developer Poly Property and ZhongAn Insurance were among 38 mobile applications and SDKs pulled from app stores after failing to correct user-rights violations within the required timeframe, according to the Shanghai communications authority. The regulator said it will continue to monitor these apps and may impose additional measures — including cutting off network access, issuing administrative penalties or adding the operators to a telecom misconduct list — if problems persist. As part of a nationwide campaign to curb the illegal collection and misuse of personal data by apps and SDKs, Shanghai’s communications regulator last month publicly named 71 services found to infringe user rights and ordered them to fix the violations.
