Sony, Samsung, LG, other TV makers sued by Texas attorney general

( December 15, 2025, 23:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued five television makers, saying they violated a state privacy law by harvesting the personal information of Texans by collecting personal data through automated content recognition (ACR) technology. “This conduct is invasive, deceptive, and unlawful. The fundamental right to privacy will be protected in Texas because owning a television does not mean surrendering your personal information to Big Tech or foreign adversaries," Paxton said. Paxton said he is particularly concerned about China-based TCL and Hisense, saying those Chinese ties "pose serious concerns about consumer data harvesting and are exacerbated by China’s National Security Law, which gives its government the capability to get its hands on US consumer data."Statement follows below.
